Staying Connected
It seems that today almost everyone is constantly busy, regardless of their particular jobs. We often feel that we don’t have time to reach out to loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. However, connecting with family and friends need not take a lot of effort. A very simple gesture can have considerable impact when it comes to showing someone that you really care.
Receiving a greeting card through the mail will nearly always invariably result in the release of endorphines “feel gooders” in the recipient. Making someone else feel special will make the sender feel good also.
Mutual Well-being
What is the cost of creating this mutual well-being? Well, in terms of time, effort and financial cost ..., practically nothing!
Three ways to send greeting cards
There are three main ways to send a greeting card to someone. I shall briefly mention the pros and cons of each:
- An electronic card, or e-card.
- These can be sent very quickly and easily by anyone who has access to a computer on the internet to anyone else who also has internet access. There are hundreds of e-card sites available, with thousands of designs from which to choose, and e-cards are free to send. However, I generally delete e-mails I receive with the subject “You have received a greeting card” or something similar. Why? ... Because there are people out there who are not as nice as you and I, and e-card e-mails is one of many ways that spammers are using to download malicious viruses and software onto your computer.
- Purchase a card from a store and post it.
- The traditional method of purchasing and sending cards is still in widespread use and is very effective. You can walk into almost any newsagent, stationery shop, gift shop or general store almost anywhere in the world and you will find several shelves of greeting cards from which you can choose for almost any purpose. After your purchase you will then need to write an appropriate message on the card(s), address the envelope to the intended recipient, purchase the required postage stamps from a post-office, and then post the card. People opening a card that they have received in the mail, will have those “feel-gooders” I mentioned earlier released, without the risk of downloading malicious viruses onto their computers. Also, a card that can be held in the hand, will be treasured much more than an electronic message on the computer. Cards that are treasured are often put aside and kept. Each time they are taken out and looked at again in the future results in those “feel-gooders” being released over once again. This traditional method of purchasing and sending greeting cards has a lot of merit, people do appreciate receiving cards in the mail whether it be a simple “thank-you”, a birthday card, an anniversary card, a get well card or whatever. However, if you are at all like me, very often good intentions are generally not enough. Pressures of time and other commitments often mean that the processes outlined above are not followed through.
- Send a card through the mail from your computer.
- This method of sending greetings to people in effect offers the best of what is involved in both “1” and “2” mentioned above. You do not have to leave your computer to design and produce a card, (even with your own handwriting and signature if you wish), and then have it professionally printed, packaged and sent through the post to anyone, anywhere in the world who has a postal address. You can send out cards quickly, easily and inexpensively without having to spend time going shopping in newsagents or other retail stores. This is the 21st Century way to help make people “feel-good” through sending greeting cards. The financial cost will generally be less than what it would cost you to purchase a card and post it using the traditional method, but you have the convenience of not having to leave your computer. There are cards for all purposes with thousands of designs from which to choose, and hundreds of new designs are constantly being added. How do you do all this?
